HORSES OF THE BDHP

                                              

 

Like the original Blue Devils, the platoon uses mainly European Warmblood mounts. The horses must be absolutely safe, both for the spectators and the riders. It takes two full years to train a mount for the street. 

 

NORMAN

He is a black Shire/Irish Draft Cross gelding. He stands 18.1 hands high. He was foaled in 1986 in Ireland. He was a West Yorkshire Police Horse for eleven years and was donated to the U.S. Army in 2002, he now serves as a U.S. Army Ceremonial Horse.

 

Athenagoras (Mickey)

He is a gray German Trakehner gelding. He stands 16.3 hands high. He was foaled in 1983 in the USA. He was trained as a Dressage horse and a carriage horse. He was the Michigan State Fair Grand Champion in 1996. He is now used as a U.S. Army Ceremonial and Sport Horse.

 

CAPITO

He is a bay German Holsteiner gelding. He stands 17.0 hands high. He was foaled in 1996 in the Netherlands. He is trained as a Jumper and a Dressage horse and is actively competing in Jumper classes. He is now used as a U.S. Army Ceremonial and Sport Horse.

 

PIET HEIN

He is a chestnut Oldenberg gelding, who stands 17.2 hands high. He was foaled in 1997 in the Netherlands. He is being trained for Dressage and Jumping. He is now used as a U.S. Army Ceremonial and Sport Horse.

 

BUDDY

He is a bay American Thoroughbred gelding, who stands 16.3 hands high. He was foaled in 1989 in Kentucky, and was trained to be a Hunter/Jumper. He is now a U.S. Army Ceremonial and Sport Horse.
